Constantine Metals Ltd. completed a Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) in July of 2019. According to the press release on the PEA, the mine is projected to last 11 years with approximately 220 full time employees and 40 contractor jobs.
Given that the PEA is the preliminary plan of possibilities that will be followed by many other plans in the coming years, this prediction is uncertain.
Environmentally Safe
In the same press release, constantine claims that this mine “will be a North American leader in low impact, environmentally conscious mine design.”
Waste Rock
Constantine plans to store 78% of tailings and waste rock underground while leaving the other 15% on the surface. Constantine claims that the tailings left on the surface will be desulferized, “non-acid generating,” and “environmentally benign.” Other environmental characteristics include cement portal plugs and the use of pre-existing roadways.
